Switching Websites
This comes up now and then, so we thought we should include it.
If you already own a domain name, you can use it with your new website by using one of the following options:
If you want to keep your domain and website billing separate, pointing the A Records to web builder x is the better choice. The first step is to change your site address in the Settings tab in the Web builder editor. Save your changes to get the IP address you will need to point your domain to. Once you have that information, you can head over to your domain host and modify the A Records.
If you don not understand domain name records, ask your domain registrar or host to do this for you.
Some domain registers take up to 48 hours for these changes to fully propagate. During that time the website may not be available, but once everything is complete you will be set.
You can follow the instructions below - these are basic steps that should work with most any domain host. The first step is to log into your domain host account and navigate to the domain management page. The name of this page varies from host to host.
When you point a domain here to use with your site, there are three key pieces of information that you’ll be working with:
- You can transfer your domain name to web builder X, which will allow you to manage and renew the domain within your new account.
- You can point your domain's A Records to web builder x's IP address, which means you'll be able to publish your site to your domain name while continuing to manage and renew the domain through the current company. Note that your website may need to be upgraded to use this option.
