Return on Initiative believes that having the foresight, the chutzpah, the drive and, yes, the initiative to work hard today so that you can be inspired to work even harder tomorrow and accomplish twice as much--yes, we believe in that the way we believe in fresh air and sunshine. When you put energy out, you expect to get something of equal or greater value in return. Isaac Newton's Third Law of Motion states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. When our clients spend money to allow us to work hard for them, we expect them to be rewarded in kind.
Back when we started this company, way back in late 2009-early 2010, all we did in those days was to build websites (most of which feel embarrassingly primitive by today's standards) and our method for acquiring clients was a bit unique. A friend came to Lisa Ann and me saying he had dived through the dumpster of a company in the telemarketing business and had a huge stack of leads. We paid that guy $100 and started dialing from home.
Fast forward to today. Most of the time people call us--rather than the other way around. They want to know what we think of their existing websites. They want us to build them a website or to maintain an existing one. Many others want us to optimize their websites or to promote it through different social media channels.
We do all these things. I like to believe we do them well. The numbers I see and the telephone calls I receive indicate our clients are happy with our work.
Having accomplished our share of success, we find ourselves in the fortunate position of being able to be just a bit picky about the clients with whom we work. Our clients are reputable. Our clients are honest. Our clients do well by doing good.
We hold ourselves to those same standards.

Mindful Eating Professional Online Training and Mentoring Program
MINDFUL EATING TRAINING INSTITUTE (METI) presents Mindful Eating Professional (MB-EAT) Online Training and Mentoring Program with MB-EAT Teacher/Trainer Andrea Lieberstein, MPH, RDN, RYT Our Three Month Online Mindful Eating Training and Mentoring Program will provide you with training in the practices and approaches of the Mindfulness-Based Eating Awareness Training Program (MB-EAT) and other mindfulness practices as they support the practice of mindful eating and living. Through mindful eating practices, one learns to pay attention to what the body really needs, how to experience the full pleasure and taste of food without overeating, and how to release the guilt and struggle so often associated with eating.
The training explores and provides intensive training with the foundational mindful eating, mindfulness and compassion practices needed to become a true embodied practitioner and guide of mindful eating with the core practices of a comprehensive evidence-based program supported by NIH funded research and more. Being the most effective and authentic mindful eating practitioner in our work, calls upon us to learn and embody the practice from the inside out. It calls upon us to understand the practice of mindfulness and how this applies to food, eating, behavior, as well as to our own and our clients’ inner landscape, including emotions and thoughts. It encompasses cultivating and practicing a wise relationship to our bodies, mind, and heart leading to greater equanimity, joy, clarity and skillful means to make wise choices that honor self-care, health and well-being. MB-EAT was pioneered by Dr. Jean Kristeller, an Indiana State University professor, and supported by NIH-funded research. It addresses mindless and stress-related eating, emotional eating, disordered eating patterns and obesity so prevalent in our culture through the application of mindfulness meditation. The tools of inner and outer wisdom, integral to the program help support each person to make informed, balanced, healthy sustainable choices over a lifetime, while being truly nourished by food and other aspects of their lives on many levels. You will learn to become an embodied Mindful Eating and meditation practitioner and instructor. This course integrates the step by step tools for you to teach the 12-week MB-EAT Group outpatient program to your clients. These Mindful Eating (MB-EAT) principles are also invaluable to utilize with your clients to integrate into your private practice. The online MB-EAT Professional Training includes 12 'Live' 2 hour sessions using a state of the art program that has video computer technology so we can all see each other. It's like being in a virtual classroom but from the comfort of your own home or office. The live weekly sessions are recorded so you can listen to them if you miss a live interactive session.
This program also includes a day long virtual retreat, a small group coaching session, unlimited email access, training materials, manuals and more! We now include two bonus 1 Hour Q & A sessions as well, which our participants really appreciate! Practices and topics introduced include mindfulness meditation, eating exercises, eating meditations, guided visualizations, loving kindness and self-compassion practices, didactic instruction, inquiry method, role playing, tools, weekly home practices, assignments, coaching and self-reflection to cultivate mindful awareness and a more balanced and positive relationship to eating and weight. This training program provides a weight neutral approach. Upon completion of the training, participants will be qualified to teach the 12-week MB-EAT Group Program to their clients. The Three-month small group program allows time for development and deepening of mindfulness meditation practice and teaching skills, mindful eating teaching skills, Teachbacks and practice. Sessions are recorded so if you miss a session you can receive the recorded session to make it up. Up to three live sessions may be missed. Extenuating circumstances will be considered on an individual basis. CEU’s Available: The training has received prior approval for 46 CPE’s by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics for Registered Dietitians. Gorgons of Ecstasy
Is it redundant to say something that ought to be obvious, to beckon attention to concepts built from facts that people I know to be reasonable have already fathomed for themselves? Reality suggests not.
The Covid-19 virus--as of this writing--has infected 4,169,071 people across the world, 283,218 of whom have died from the disease. These numbers come unbidden from the Center for Disease Control. Because the United States has always prided itself on being Number One, we lead the world--free and otherwise--with 1,364,956 cases and 80,697 departures from this mortal coil. This disease is the Manson Family of viruses. What I mean is that a lot of people back in the summer of 1969 tried to warn the authorities that a short guy with long hair and a bevvy of females and a few young men were attempting to ignite a race war by killing white people and putting the blame on blacks on account of The Beatles told them to do so, but the story was so deranged and confusing and vast that members of the Los Angeles Police Department back in that late summer of 1969 decided the killers of Sharon Tate and others just had to be the result of a drug deal gone wrong and wasted days, weeks, months sniffing the stench of the wrong sidewalks.
And so it was in the early days of the Corona Virus.
A country all too happy to blame other countries for its own personality defects decided to wait. The mystery disease had not, after all, affected anyone in the United States. The very fact that the United States was now in the hands of a messianic megalomaniac with strong appeal to racists and survivalists meant that the disease would not dare enter our shores. Our leader had scared off the Mexicans, the Arabs, the Asians and godless Canadians. How much harm could some bat in a fish market in Wuhan do to a bunch of hairy muscleheads in the greatest goldarned country on the face of North America? We're great again, dammit! That flu bug will vanish, like a miracle from the Miracle Man.
Eighty thousand dead Americans later, we find ourselves hellbent for leather to "reopen" our country tomorrow, as if somehow the last two months has been some kind of grandiose prison sentence, some illegitimate constraint against our fought and won right to cough recombinant ancestral acute respiratory syndrome death seeds into the gaping faces of people too stunned by the idiocy of it all to stay at home.
I'm in business. I like working. I enjoy seeing the work I do help other people. But I am not so conceited--no matter what you may have heard--as to believe that my contribution to the health of our collective economy depends in any way whatsoever on my direct physical participation. So I continue to use other means: telephone, texting, email, video conferencing. Sometimes I just dash out the front door, let out a scream that would give a stroke to a timberwolf, and run back inside.
I like being alive. I have a beautiful young wife and a couple of silly dogs who look at me as if I know many things. he dogs, that is. Joyce knows better. I have friends all over the country and they mean the world to me. That is why I don't go out to some crowded grocery without a mask, touch as many things as possible, pick my face, shake hands with the cashier, and then make air contact with a whole bunch of other nitwits, anyone of whom might infect somebody else who would then give the virus I so conveniently acquired without symptoms to my young wife or my friends, any one of whom could then in turn join the anonymous list of numbers clicking out the official DOA tickertape.
So if this is redundant, as Walt Whitman could have said, very well then, it is redundant. I contain multitudes of forgetfulness. The pity is that repetition and metaphoric restatements are required at all.
